Today, I had a food allergy test done because of an ugly acne upswing, and after over a year of vegetarianism, I find out that I'm allergic to soy. FML

Today, I tried to blow my girlfriend's vegan parents minds by cooking them a tofu stir-fry. Being allergic to tofu but wanting to prove my cooking skills, I wore gloves and avoided touching my face. Somehow, I still managed to get it in my eye, causing an allergic reaction that made my face swell up like a balloon. Now her parents think I'm some sort of Martian. FML

People, seriously, shut the hell up on hating vegetarians. It's a personal choice, and if they're not pushing it on you, then you have no right to be pushing them to eat meat. There are entire countries with the majority of it's people being vegetarian. Do you hate on them? And I really doubt some of you are !00% carnivores. You can't survive on just meat, just so you know. There are other things you can eat besides soy products, and there are other alternatives. Also, you guys aren't being witty or funny with your comments saying, "Oh too bad, just go eat a steak and get over it." You're just sounding like an idiot.

Hey! I haven't read the rest of the comments so someone might have already said this, but I've been vegan for 7 years and rarely eat soy. There are way better alternatives, like quinoa [an ancient grain that is a complete protein. Use it instead of rice] and even combinations of beans and whole grains.. Also, not sure if it's available where you live but a company called Sequel Naturals makes a meal replacement powder called Vega, which has 100% of your recommended daily intake of pretty much every vitamin and mineral, plus tonnes of protein. It's a little gritty and hard to get used to at first, but I've been drinking the berry flavoured one in blueberry-pomegranate juice or Odwalla for a few months now, and not only have I lost weight, but I have more energy than I ever have before. It's awesome! Anyway, a soy allergy doesn't have to be the end of your vegetarianism - I have a friend who is veggie and allergic to all beans, nuts, and legumes - even peas! His life sucks. But yours doesn't have to!

LOL @ all the people who immediately post 'all you veggie haters out there are just big meanies!' Go **** yourselves. No one posting here thinks that your opinion is worth a second thought, and no one here defending vegetarianism is going to change anyone's mind. Honestly, I couldn't give a damn if something is 'good for you' or not. If I want to do it, I'm going to do it, and that's how everyone should live their lives. I also have to say that you know it's FMyLife.com when you can't escape seeing a bunch of poorly-written bullshit going back and forth between anonymous internet-ers about something vaguely related to the topic at hand.

That sucks! Ive been a vegetarian for 9 years. Try the 'Quorn' brand of fake meat. Its made out of mycoprotein and is soy free. Their "chicken" especially tastes like the real stuff.

you idiot! you put shame on us allergic to soy people.

#224: i don't think you can put something in the "addiction" column if it helps you live.... though there are food addicts, that would be an extreme case...

and #272/cameraboirzu, your logic = epic fail: maybe god didn't want us to eat meat, so he decided to make animals out of it to deter us, or even better: since we're made out of meat, we should really be eating EACHOTHER!! go learn to think

Tofu causes dementia, makes you gay, and is made from Hasslehoff's sweat. I don't know which of those came from actual reliable sources, but it's reason enough for me to never touch it.

#282: Cannibalism has been tried and found wanting because it's dangerous. It's dangerous not because ALL meat is dangerous, but because if you consider a diseased cow and a diseased human, both undiagnosed, it is far, far safer to eat the cow than the human, because the cow's disease is much less likely to be contracted by the human eating the meat. This is one of the reasons that - historically - pork is more dangerous than other meats as well. Pigs are genetically very close to humans. Many diseases that a pig can get can be passed to humans. That, and pigs themselves are omnivores. Not only do omnivores further reduce the eventual energy transfer (as someone pointed out already), but herbivores are healthier meat. So once again, cows > humans AND pigs for food. I like eating meat, but there's meat and then there's meat. Just like you vegeterians wouldn't necessarily climb over one another to eat a cactus or a rubber tree. Not every plant or animal is particularly suitable as people food.

There is nothing wrong with hating vegetarians and vegans, because they made a choice. It's not like being racist or homophobic. We hate people who make stupid choices, that's all.
