Today, I had a serious allergic reaction to the food I ate at a Chinese restaurant that supposedly didn't contain peanuts. According to my waitress, peanut oil "doesn't count". FML

Actually, #92 is right. I heard it on the Food Network. Most people are allergic to the oil, but the protein. I forget why, but I heard it maybe a few weeks ago.

It really depends on how you worded the question... For example, I do not like peanuts, so if I were to ask a waitress if food contained peanuts, and she said no, I would be satisfied, I do not care about peanut oil. If you ask simply "Does this have peanuts" then that is all you are asking. If you are allergic, you should know to ask about peanut oil, or at the very least, should be saying "Does this dish contain nuts, because I am allergic" if you mentioned an allergy, then congrats, because you have a fairly strong basis to sue, if not, then YDI. Either way, not an fml.

FYL, indeed. The waitress should know that, if someone asks you if there is any peanuts on this dish, peanut oil has the word peanut in it. Yes, it does count. Besides, she is getting paid, so she should know at least a little bit about the place she works in and what do they serve !

It seems like she knew what "do they serve". She did say there was peanut oil, so she must have known there was peanut oil. And if someone asks if something contains peanuts, that is NOT the same thing as peanut oil.

Aw. That sucks. I have a friend that can doe if she eats peanuts. I would count yourself lucky in the end. But that still sucks. FYL.

Actually the allergens in peanuts are in the protein of the nut, not the fat. Most people who are allergic to peanuts can eat peanut oil as long as it's not cold pressed.

What an idiot! My brother's allergic to nuts (and peanuts actually. The peanut allergy isn't as bad as the nut one though) and sometimes people are stupid. "They're so small you won't even notice!" "I promise I'll notice..."

"I agree, your life sucks (9689) you totally deserved it (674)" I'm convinced 674 out of every 9689 FML readers are completely stupid. That's roughly 7%.

No need for me to show any stats or anything, but I'm convinced that you are completely stupid.

I'm convinced you don't know how to take percentages.

I'm convinced that I have encountered another completely stupid person over this website.

I'm convinced that y'all are taking this WAAAAY too seriously.

I'm convinced that it's not butter...

I'm sorry, but if you have that serious of an allergy, why even take the risk? I would not want to trust my health to a server making 3 bucks an hour.

This isn't totally her fault, I have a friend who's allergic to peanuts but not peanut oil. If you didn't specify, she couldn't have known.

It sucks worse for the waitress, she's out of a job now.

it does suck for her but depending on how serious his reaction was, they could have died.
