I had something similar happen to me about four years ago. It was the day before Thanksgiving and we had family over and my mom didn't want to have to cook because she would be cooking all day the next day so we went to this Szechuan place. I'm not deadly allergic to peanuts but I'm allergic enough that it's bad. So when I was looking at the menu I saw that they used peanut oil. So when the waiter came I asked him to tell me all the foods that were safe. So nothing was really safe so I decided to just stick with a Caesar Salad and when we got home I would just eat some ramen. Well, when I got my Caesar Salad I saw something diced up on it and was unsure of eating it. After being persuaded that it was sesame seeds I took a bite only to immediately feel intense pain in my throat and ears. So yeah, that diced up stuff I saw was diced peanuts. Despite how the waiter knew I was allergic he didn't warn me against the Caesar Salad.
As an allergy sufferer you should know that you should ask about the oils it's cooked in, as well. I'm not saying you deserve it though. The waitress should have more common sense.
You're dumb.
YDI, chinese food conains lots of peanut oil.
wow - ydi for eating Asian food! My 6-y/o cousin knows all good Asian food is fried in Peanut oil...
I have a friend who is a vegetarian. We were at a Chinese restaurant and asked specifically whether a certain dish had meat in it, and we were told that there it contained no meat of any kind. When it came my friend started to eat and tasted meat, so I tried it too, and realized that there was ground pork in the dish. When we asked for an explanation, we were adamantly informed that pork isn't meat. Who knew that pigs are vegetables? Surprisingly, neither of us have been back there since.
depends on the culture. But I don't think there's an excuse for pork not being meat... Fish, though, on the other hand, certainly isn't a vegetable, and certainly isn't meat either (in Chinese thinking). There IS an in-between zone, you know. It's called dairy, eggs, etc. =D
Umm, it's Chinese food. there are bound to be, at least, traces of peanut in everything.
