Today, I had to carry a 25kg bag of cement to an elderly customer's car because she refused to use a cart. "You're paid to work, so I'm gonna make you work." FML

Carts are meant to convey goods from one point to other. OP could have used that time and effort elsewhere. That was unfair.

In Australia that's actually an OH&S issue. You should have insisted on using a trolley.

in Australia (where I live), that depends on where you work. as a general rule, most retail jobs will reuqire you sign a form to say you can carry 20/25kg. OH&s says use your legs and carry it properly.

"There is no longer a prescribed weight limit for women or men over which it is illegal for persons to lift. Instead, the risk of lifting the load should be assessed." According to OHS website. So, if this was a one-time thing, it was not illegal to have him carry the bags.

True definition of a "hard-earned" paycheck

I wish 50lbs is all I had to lift at work lol

What stopped you from getting a cart? Is she going to complain to a manager that you decided to use a cart to help you do your job and to help a customer?

Definite YDI for being a tool. It is OK if customer asks to help to help LOAD things into car, bat carry it all the way.... You should have used a cart anyway.

As a retail worker.... I would've gotten a cart. I don't care what she says. I'm working whether she is there or not. That's what carts are for. Use them.

People, OP works retail, not construction. 25kg carried over a certain distance when one isn't use to it with out the aid of a trolley can be taxing.
