Today, I heard on the news that the average debt one is in when they graduate college is $24,000. I've been in college for one year and my debt is already $20,000. And it turns out that my school's accreditation does not exist like I was told. $20,000 in debt and no college credits to show for it. FML

should have researched the college first

go to a different school asap. it's obvious accreditation means something to you or you wouldn't have mentioned it. Don't pay 20k a year for something that's not going to earn it back for you.

Seriously. Who doesn't check that their college is an ACTUAL college before paying them 20 grand? YDI.

I saw that article too, I pay more than that for one year of school. $24,000...I freaking wish

When was the article written, in the late 70s? OP you need to research if there are other schools willing to accept some of the credits. My sister got into the same problem with her nursing degree. She did lose some credits during transfer, but was able to get some of them accepted.

When I was checking out and calling schools for my master's degree, I made sure they were accredited. YDI for not being proactive, enjoy being poor.

that sucks...should have started at a community college its the same shit the first two years and much cheaper

op should have dome more research, sure. but a lot of these for profit schools will say that they're nationally accredited, which sounds great until you realize that Harvard and Yale, your state universities, and community colleges are all regionally accredited. sadly a lot of people have been taken in by for profit colleges' lines and they really work hard to sell you a product. fyl and ydi.

Actually, if they're federal loans I remember reading on their website that your debt can be forgiven if your school loses accreditation while you're there. So I would check on that if I were you. In the future, you know to do your own research and not just take someone's word for it even if the person is supposed to be knowledgeable about the matter. Good luck!

Haha there's a bunch of University of Phoenix ads on the right side of this page now...

Thats why you avoid those schools you see on TV advertising all the time

YDI There are a ton of ways to verify if the school you are going to is accredited. You also fail at life for not taking the 5 minutes it would have taken to verify this instead of finding out $20,000 later.
