But the point is, they are both still Jake. Just two sides of the same coin. If it was someone with DID, then there wouldbe Jake, Ben, Vlad, Mary, etc. Depends on how many personalities there are. The OP's bf (hopefully ex) is an idiot. Period.

OP deserves it for being dumb enough to date someone dumb enough to think bipolar disorder is the same thing as schizophrenia. (Or, y'know, dumb enough to actually use that as an excuse.)

Schizophrenia doesn't involve multiple personalities. Disassociative identity disorder (DID) is the proper disorder.

It's called Dissociative Personality Disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (or DSM-IV), which is the manual used in the United States. If you live anywhere else, the manual commonly used is the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (or ICD). In the ICD, the diagnosis is Multiple Personality Disorder. Both are correct.
