Today, I learned that my mother now refuses to drink anything but bottled water because she actually believes that the government is putting a chemical in tap water that lowers pregnancy rates. She is trying for her 5th child. FML

Well they do put Fluoride in the water which is a neural toxin (IE kills brain cells). Why do you think toothpaste says if swallowed contact poison control?

There are a ton of chemicals in the tap water. Also hormones. Because most tap water is recycled sewage, that contains urine, and 80% of the hormone contraception pills that women take is leaked out through their urine. So it does lower pregnancy chance. But most bottled water is just "purified" tap water. Unless shes drinking spring water she's not close to safe. Either way she should stop having kids. 4 is plenty

There are no words to describe how much of an idiot this guy is.

You don't know anything about economics. Take a course it'll help open your eyes a bit.

Statistics aside, who are you to judge and say she needs to stop having kids??? Also, there are traces of sewage in the water WAY BEFORE it becomes drinking, tap water. But there is always a sewage waste plant in most places. The end of the sewer system. It looks like a huge, stagnant, dirty pond. And it's always well away from residential areas. No matter how far or where they have to go to get it, tap water comes from a water source... That is NOT the sewer system! Like someone said previously, you really should take a class or something. And get off your high horse. You don't have any power to judge this woman at all... Or the amount of children she has/would like to have!

A world population of 7 billion says OP's mom should slow the **** down.

82-actually I know where there is a sewage plant No more than 200 feet from a development with over 50 houses in it

I don't think it's anyone's business how many kids anyone has. You aren't supporting them.

That isn't really a lack of common sense. I'm sure the people involved with such a scientific development have a way to protect themselves. It's just the rest of us that are ****** if they screw something up really bad in their containment of the virus. Smart? Yes. Common sense? Likely. Unscrupulous? Debatable.

How do we know that this OP isn't actually the government planting fake conspiracy FML's using a shadow ID just to try and throw us off the scent by making what they are really doing seem crazy and far-fetched?

How do you know that they aren't trying to trick FMLers into drinking the bottled water that is actually the one contaminated?

How are we to know you are part of the government trying to mess with us with reverse psychology!

18- You gave too much ******* reasons. Hopefully someone sees what I did there.

39-I just don't see ANY upside of making an experiment like that.

Good people shouldn't be allowed to have more then three kids anyway

What about bad people? Or are you trying to breed an army of people who don't know the difference between "your" and "you're"?

Think I'm the only one to point out that some of these comments should replace ""too much" with "too many"?

18 needs to. 48 was pointing out 18's mistake...

Your mum could be right. Fluoride is added to water which is a toxic waste product from the aluminum industry. It is harmful to our health and that is why you're not supposed to swallow toothpaste. Google it. You will find a lot of information on how fluoride is harmful to our health.

Actually, All evidence on the planet (that has been accumulating for decades) suggests that at current water levels, fluoride is beneficial at current doses. You're not supposed to swallow toothpaste because it has extremely high levels of fluoride which might become unsafe if someone were to swallow it habitually for years and years. Google it. You'll find LEGITIMATE information (ie, not conspiracy nuts posting on blogs) disproving everything you believe on the matter.
