Today, I learned that my roommate, the one in charge of the cooking, never washes her hands beforehand. According to her, it boosts her immune system. FML

Well, according to her logic, your immune system is being boosted as well. I believe a thank you is in order, she's pumping up your system to defend against super-bugs!

There are germs everywhere on everything. Tons of people don't wash their hands before eating which is worse because cooking kills germs.

Order pizza until u find a new roommate. Seriously, ew.

Indeed. It is actually lack of exposure to germs that cause allergies later in life. Example: peanut allergies quadrupled shorty after removing peanuts from public places due to allergies.

But at least before cooking...

#49 - I haven't heard anything about peanut allergies going up as the result of their removal from public places, but a large reason people are becoming more allergic to foods is due to the approval of genetically modified varieties and the application of different types of pesticides. Either way, what you mentioned about peanuts sounds intriguing. I think I'd like to see some data that supports that.

If ALL the food she makes, she cooks, it shouldn't be a problem. Hopefully she doesn't make you salads.

And to specific, I haven't been sick in over 3 years, and the last time I was it barely lasted 3 days because my immune system kicks ass. I welcome new pathogens and germs because my body destroys them and creates new and improved antibodies every time.

No off days for you. Haha wash you're hands more as live the dream of relaxation time

As long as she doesn't have seriously questionably hygiene and does actually wash her hands after using the loo, there is nothing wrong with this, actually, as others have said it DOES boost your immune system. All of my childhood friends with the worst immune systems and conditions like asthma were the ones whose mums were total neat freaks and obsessed with using every cleaning product going, THAT'S NOT HEALTHY. if it bothers you that much the YDI for not cooking yourself.

Seriously, who cares? You would have never known if she didn't tell you.

Your room mate is an idiot. Chances are if she doesn't wash before coking and isn't concerned about germs, then she probably doesn't wash after using the toilet. AND LET'S NOT over look the fact that handling raw chicken and then making the salad without washing your hands is EXTREMELY dangerous to your health

Room mate is right, your an idiot. Today's society is to paranoid with clean, and really has no clue about germs. Yes, if they touched raw chicken or had the flu they should wash their hands but it says neither of these cases. Making a salad or sandwich without washing your hands is fine. And honestly unless you pissed on your hands there is no reason to wash your hands after going to the washroom. Technically you should wash your hands before touching you genitals.
