Today, I left my dog in the car while I quickly ran into a store. I came out to a woman smashing at my window, screaming that it was too hot in the car for the dog and saying I was being inhumane. The car was still running and the air conditioning was on. FML

Same thing different taste

Today, I left my dog in my car for 5 minutes while I ran into a store. The car was running so he was fine, the thing that wasn't so fine is that when I walked out my car wasn't there. My dog somehow moved my car into the middle of a intersection, almost causing an accident. FML

Today, my mom and I were going to the store. I stayed in the car while she went in. In the car next to me, there was a dog in the driver's seat barking at me. Bored, I barked back at it until I realized there was someone in the passenger's seat watching me. FML

Today, while in the car with my mom, we accidentally ran over a dog who had sprinted into the road. Instead of stopping, my mom continued to drive as if nothing happened. Every time I tried to bring it up, she merely talked loudly over me. FML

Today, I saw a young child passed out unattended in a hot car so I smashed the windows to rescue him. After waiting with him for 30 minutes, his mom came out and called the cops on me. I officially have a probation violation and the mom went home free. FML

Today, I was sitting in a parked car. A woman was having difficulties maneuvering out. She honked the horn repeatedly for me to move, then looked me in the eye and called me a "f**king bitch", before driving off. I was in the passenger seat. FML

Today, I got locked out of my car while the engine was idling. The "good news"? My dog inside the car thought this was the funniest thing ever and barked happily every time I tried to open it. FML

YDI because no matter the weather or if you leave the AC on, you should never ever leave a dog unattended in a car. Would you leave a 2 year old child locked in a car, even with the AC on? No, you wouldn't. It's no different for a dog.

I don't know what the laws are in the OP's state, but in some places it is illegal to leave your animal or child alone in a car even if it is running and a person of the public is allowed to rescue the animal or child before the police show up (minutes count in these situations for saving lives), which includes smashing the window to gain entry to the car. It only takes a few minutes for a car to get hot enough to kill and it does happen with both animals and children, sadly. Please also restrain your animals with pet seatbelts (best) or crates for their safety, your safety (so they don't hit you in a crash), and the safety of other drivers on the road (so they aren't distractions to your driving).
