Today, I left my dog in the car while I quickly ran into a store. I came out to a woman smashing at my window, screaming that it was too hot in the car for the dog and saying I was being inhumane. The car was still running and the air conditioning was on. FML

YDI! Replace "dog" with "baby" in your story, and you might be able to begin to understand why what you did was so wrong. What if your car had stopped running or the a/c quit?

Dogs are not babies though. Honestly My friend and I leave our dogs in the car with the windows part way down and water and they are fine.

@189: In that case, it would still be fine if it was only for a couple of minutes. Geez, it's not like the AC has to provide oxygen or something, it's NOT a life support system. People can breathe in the car just fine without it!

You idiot. You're lucky the woman didn't sue you. It is illegal to leave dogs in cars no matter the condition. Because of their high sense of smell, they need fresh air filled with oxygen, not A.C.

Just gonna leave this here for all the people who say it's illegal where they are to leave a dog unattended in a car: it's a by-state law, and in NJ it is as follows: "Unattended in a vehicle under inhumane conditions adverse to the health or welfare of the living animal or creature." AC running (really easy to check) takes almost no time to check. Furthermore, there is no provision in the law for a citizen to take the law into their own hands. To the OP, I hope you talked to your lawyer about this - you have quite a bit of money that she owes you.

AC on or not if you called the cops in my town for this they'd have helped her smash your window then ticketed you for endangering an animal and probably vandalism for the broken glass, and anything else they could pin on your cruel self
