Today, I lost two terabytes' worth of photos to a friend's incompetence. He said he could save me some money and fix my slow computer for free. He ended up wiping the hard drive, and along with it, my photography portfolio from the last five years. FML

This is why you have an external hard drive to save these important things onto when you are letting someone unqualified (I'm guessing) mess with your stuff.

Holy shit five years? I would give your friend the wrath of God if I were you.

ever heard of a backup? who the hell puts two terabytes of data on their computer anyway? jesus.

YDI. Learn to backup important files. Sometimes we don't learn until we get hurt

And THIS is why you should make BACKUPS of important files. Some only learn it the hard way.

My friend did the same thing to me...I feel your pain

terabytes!?! that's an impossible number of photos

definitly why you keep backups... Just a matter of time before the HDD dies on its own.

I'd say this is both of your faults. He should have told you that he was going to wipe the hard drive and asked if anything important was on your computer. You should have had back-ups. I don't think you could accidentally erase a hard drive. He should have known better.

Wait...terabytes? Maybe he really didn't know what he was doing.

You know there are ways to recover deleted files, right?

That sucks, poor you! But still, if they were important, you should have backed them up :/
