Today, I met my boyfriend's very strict and traditional Korean parents. I had to listen to them while they called me a skank and how I was fat and ugly compared to nice, pretty, Korean girls. They don't know I speak Korean. FML

you should've been like "uhm, thank you?" in korean :)

just say "uh....I speak Korean, thanks"..... but say it in Korean and make them feel like a bunch of a-holes!

The best thing you can do is ignore their comments and never refer to them again. Next time you see them say hello in Korean and offer a compliment on the mothers dress or something and just move on. Either they will accept you or they will not but if you behave in any way they see as defiant or disrespectful then they will never accept you and the insults will never end.

Try to buy bad ppl..No thanks. They have the bad attitude not her, they have to learn to be polite, bottom line.

Idk about people these days- not everyone is going to be as open minded to race as some people, especially in foreign countries. Speaking Korean in this situation would NOT have helped the situation, in fact, the parent most likely would STILL not like her. I have Korean cousins who have dated and been in the same situation. And no, her boyfriend couldn't have said anything because, yes, that is disrespect in some cultures. The best thing OP could have done was kept her mouth shut and be respectful. The parents May or May Not have warmed up to her afterwards-- but OP is dating her boyfriend, not his parents. And if her boyfriend has already brought her home, that's enough disrespect by itself.

I would've been like "Ow chow Kalamazoo Haryana diaper" (I speak Korean dumb asses)

I agree wholeheartedly 116. Most Korean mothers-in-law aren't like this anymore...they're starting to embrace western aspects of culture more and more now...hope things are better with you OP :)

It's ****** up that 'strict and traditional' cultures seems to encourage the attitude that a no matter how a parent behaves, the child is apparently never allowed to call him/her on it. OP's boyfriend should have stood up for her. OP is quite justified to be rude to the parents in ANY language she chooses, especially after being called a fat, ugly *****.

I don't understand why some people are hung up on race. If my daughter brought home a bf of a different race I would not mind. As long as he is a good person and treats her nice.

It's a generational and cultural thing. "Blood purity" is HUGE in the Korean culture and while inter-racial relationships are more tolerated these days, it's still somewhat taboo.

31 how do u know the op is white? don't just asume. anyway that's Koreans for ya..meanest kind of Asians I know.

Seriously, why didn't you say something? I would have been so pissed.

I love you 119. That's ******* funny and something to think about next time my bfs family pisses me off.

You banged your girlfriend's sister? You know, you said "their daughter" some people have two daughters if you didn't know.
