Today, I parked my car in a garage that cost $13 for every 10 minutes past 10 o'clock. When I came back to the garage at 10, I had forgotten where I parked it and spent an hour looking for it. I paid $78 to lose my car. FML

what kind of parking lot is that?! so expensive! parking is free in philippines and rates are charged hourly or every 30 minutes in hong kong (random fact: an hour's parking is 12 pennies) 13 bucks for 10 minutes is pretty intense. It's over a dollar for every minute wtf!

I have lived in new york city, los angeles and san francisco and I've never heard of a parking rate as ridiculous as that. Or maybe I was just smart enough not to park in one of those...

An hour?! How big is this garage? YDI for not remembering where you park, I guess you'll learn to remember now.

YDI for not remembering where you parked, by noting it down or something, especially in a place that charges such exorbitant fees. And, surely if you were going to get charged an extra $13 if you left even a minute after 10 you should have come back earlier?

In Toronto, after 6pm most parking garage fee is $6 flat rate.

#16 a flat rate I understand but 13 dollars every 10 minutes that seems over the top.

At least you wrote it right. Posts like these usually this end with "I paid $78 to go to the store for a $1.53 thing."

#7, I've lived and parked in Chicago for years and never experienced that. So it's not Chicago parking. And OP, I forget where I park sometimes, but you really should write it down. And I can't imagine anyone taking an hour to find their car still, that's just ridiculous.

Could OP have told the garage people that they didn't remember where they parked to avoid fees? Yeah, I think even if OP didn't have paper/writing device, they could have texted themselves something like "Level 3, to the right of the elevator, seven spots down from first concrete post". I text myself reminders all the time. But I have a cheap phone so it's about my only choice. *wanders away*

NYC has incredible parking costs, but i've never seen anything that high.... I've paid as much as 60something for a night out, but never seen anything charged like that. What would it have been overnight?
