Today, I parked my car in a garage that cost $13 for every 10 minutes past 10 o'clock. When I came back to the garage at 10, I had forgotten where I parked it and spent an hour looking for it. I paid $78 to lose my car. FML

what kind of parking lot is that?! so expensive! parking is free in philippines and rates are charged hourly or every 30 minutes in hong kong (random fact: an hour's parking is 12 pennies) 13 bucks for 10 minutes is pretty intense. It's over a dollar for every minute wtf!

"The problem with the mall garage is that everything looks the same. They try to differeriate between levels. They put up different colors, different numbers, different letters. What they need to do is name the levels, like, 'Your mother's a *****.' You would remember that."

Where do you live?! HAHAHAH you deserve it for forgetting. It's YOUR fault!!! You knew the cost because they always put the signs with the prices out front. haahahhahaha

Funny, there is a commercial airing on German TV at the moment which advertises the utility of an iPhone. One line is: "And if you want to figure out where *exactly* you've parked your car, there's an app for that, too!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7UvjBZs4AM

Its that expensive because the lot closes at 10 and they don't want people trying to park till 10:30/11/midnight then screaming about how they can't get their car back. Its the same concept with daycares. They might give you a 15 minute leeway after closing time, but then you'll often be paying a dollar minute per child after that if you don't come get your kid.

I call BS. It's after hours, hence the exorbitant rates - so the parking lot is pretty empty. How much time does it take to run up a set of stairs, and peer out the door at each mostly vacant floor. An hour?!?

You should of given yourself enough time to find your car.

I can't believe you actually parked in that garage, that's a huge ripoff. YDI, for not finding a better deal.

That's why you hit the car lock button, so it will beep. Then you can find it. My car makes a chirp noise when I lock it, so when I lose it, I can find it when I hit the lock button. YDI for not thinking of that.

#36, interesting fact: That is a GREAT money making technique. I haven't heard an explanation for WHY this happens, but there's a psychological phenomenon that parents will put a good deal of importance on getting to the daycare early if being late means having to deal with the disappointment/complaints of the staff, but if you give them the option of PAYING for extra time even at a rate so ridiculous as a dollar a minute (and sometimes up to 5), they will place almost anything at a higher priority than getting there on time because "its only money". That's probably exactly what this garage is doing, its not to keep people out by penalizing them, its cause they KNOW that stuff comes up and if they give people an option of NOT having to run down to get their car out at exactly ten, then at least some of them will willingly pay even such a ridiculous amount as 78$ an hour.

No you didn't. You paid $78 to be stupid and run around looking for your car for a whole hour.
