I REALLY hope that you're driving it for '5 mins' doesn't make this your fault (ie, it was fine when you took the car), but I'd bet that's what they're going to say.
My brother is a mechanic in Tucson. He has dealt with the aftermath of this situation numerous times (for customers). Sadly, whether it be a nationally recognized chain or a small shop, mechanics can easily forget to replace the oil cap, put the oil filter on correctly, or even remember to put the oil in. When that happens, it is best to go to the shop manager first, with the receipt and paperwork from your newly purchased oil change. If they are not accomodating, then get an attorney involved. Most places will pay for the repair when pressured by an attorney...ESPECIALLY national chains. They don't want the bad publicity.
In a fair few "normal" cases, vehicular damage won't be paid off by the shop you got your vehicle repaired in (depends on the chain, etc.). This, however, is definitely an exception, since they rendered a service with they obviously failed to finish. I doubt you'll even need a lawyer for this though. Like #57 said, just take this to the place itself and they SHOULD take care of the problem. If they refuse despite proof, that's when you have to go for the big guns (i.e. court).
Honestly, it's why I don't trust places like firestone. Someone there tried lying to me, saying that they thought the knob for my A/C settings was already broken. It was completely fine until then. Thankfully they gave me a new knob for free. The bad news: Even after this incident, my mother still won't listen to me about how horrible a lot of car repair shops are. The reason is that she has a credit card from there.
>_> "Sue them" yea, totally sue them for a $6000 engine, the money you win might cover the cost of a lawyer. Something like this won't net you a lot of money. Chances are they'll replace your engine. "Sue them" ahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahah Stop being so American.
Actually, gross negligence can net a lot of money. Cost of repairs. Cost of lost wages, if you used your vehicle for work. Cost of rental vehicles, and because you *had* to sue, you can sue to get attorney fees covered.
learn to change your own oil.
Sue the ******* and make them pay for it.
They have to pay for that. That is their fault. If they deny it, fight them with a lawyer.

It was their mistake, their damage, they'll cover the cost. Bring it up to them with proof, escalate the problem if needbe, and go to court if it gets that far (it won't, they'll fix it).
They should be willing to compensate for that, but FYL for having to wait for that process to be complete.
