And they need to pay for it. Get a lawyer if you have to - they are absolutely liable.
yeah they are responsible for putting that oil back in. they did not which led to the engine failure. you dont have to pay a dime for that engine. they do.
They are super responsible for that. If you want to get that they're responsible for what happened though, remember to get it in writing.
This is fake. There would be something obviously wrong with the car just from the noise it would make from the valvetrain, especially if it had a timing chain/gears. Then after about a minute or two you'd hear the pistons grinding on the cylinder walls followed by, if not preceded by bearing noise. The temp would rise from the friction which could cause the block/head to warp if aluminum along with the mass of smoke from the remnants of oil burning along with a strong smell. If you had an oil pressure gauge it wouldn't even have a reading which would trigger a light immediately if equipped. If you were able to go 5 minutes and did not notice the problem almost instantly the only possible explanation would be if the didn't put enough in, they left the oil pan bolt/plug loose, left the oil filter loose, or an oil line (if equipped) moved to the header/ exhaust manifold.
hey, make them buy you a new engine, or take it to court if they refuse!
won't they pay for it?

It was their mistake, their damage, they'll cover the cost. Bring it up to them with proof, escalate the problem if needbe, and go to court if it gets that far (it won't, they'll fix it).
They should be willing to compensate for that, but FYL for having to wait for that process to be complete.
