Today, I poured my heart out into what had to be my greatest set of lyrics for my band ever, at the same time my teacher was explaining chemical changes to the class. At the end of the lecture he picked up my paper, and set it on fire to demonstrate a chemical change. FML

I am a teacher. Even if a student is not paying attention in class, I would never take their piece of paper away and set it on fire. Tell them to put it away, yes. Confiscate it for the rest of the period, yes. But destroying something of a student's is completely disrespectful. Some might argue that it's disrespectful to do other work during class, and I'd agree. However, the teacher shouldn't have taken that harsh of a measure to discipline him. Being a teacher doesn't give you license to be a bitch.

Shouldn't be too hard to remember the lyrics, or at least the gist of them. Chances are the lyrics weren't as good as you thought they were when you first wrote them down. The odds of spontaneously writing something very good in 45 minutes are almost nil. What's far more common is to think what you just wrote is amazing, only to read it the next day and wonder what the hell you were thinking. You do mention writing what had to be YOUR greatest lyrics ever, so we're dealing with relative versus absolute quality here. I'm in no position to judge your level of ability, but I would suggest keeping in mind that when the average high schooler pours their heart out, it comes off as sappy and trite to most people. The internet is full of talentless 14 year-olds fully convinced their writing would put Shakespeare to shame. Don't be one of them.

just last week my teacher did the exact same thing except he took a blank sheet of paper to do it lol.

So then he didn't do the same thing. Good job.

Woah, all you that say YDI for not paying attention were probably those nerds in HS that no one even acknowledged. That being said, quit being asses about it. Who doesn't doze off in class when it's hell of boring? And for OP, no worries..everything happens for a reason.

Considering the grammar of some of the people saying YDI, I doubt they made it onto the honor roll... (And since I commented about grammar, I know that I'm destined to make at least one mistake in this post, but whatever.) At any rate, OP, it's funny to me that you were worse off actually creating something in class... If you would have just stared off into space for an hour, mindlessly sucking up oxygen and tuning out everything but the sound of the bell that would set you free, you would have probably just been ignored by the teacher (and would not be on FML right now).

That's what happens when you don't pay attention in class. And relax, you thought of them once, you'll be able to remember them again. It might even turn out better when you write it the second time. But YDI because chemistry class isn't the time and place to write lyrics for your song. Your teacher may have done it on purpose for that exact reason.

If you couldn't manage to learn one thing in a clear cut class like chemistry, how likely is it that your lyrics have anything interesting to say about anything? "It never ceases to amaze me at how ******* ignorant and stupid people can be." That is more true than I think you realize.

Agreed. Despite how understanding I am of the artist's burden, YDI for doing it during chemistry class. Didn't it cross your mind that he might've done it to prove a point? PS Your grammer sucks, OP.

Don't correct someone on their grammar if you can't spell "grammar." I'm just saying. But OP, I feel for you, I once spent an hour writing a great song and then my teacher picked it up because she thought it was the assignment I was supposed to be handing in. That's why you're supposed to go over every few lines in your head several times to make sure it's locked in and so that it all fits.

Its a good thing that didnt happen to Dexter Holland, He wrote Come out and play in chemistry class, remember, "You got to keep them seperated",
