Today, I realised just how grossly out of shape I am, when I started violently sweating, felt light-headed, and almost blacked out. All this from helping my sister shift a sofa from the move-in truck to her living room. FML

"I'm gonna start going to the gym everyday... Ok maybe once a week... Or I will drive by it every day on my way to McDonalds..." hmmm this sofa looks comfy, I wonder what's on TV tonight?

a few weeks at the gym might do the trick

OP's sister was probably just standing there holding it with one hand.

Try exercise! I recommend running/jogging about a half mile a day at first, rest when you need to. Then bump it up slightly every week until you can go at least 2 miles at a brisk jog without stopping. Running in the morning is best, although around sundown also works, at least for me it does. Replace most sodas with fruit juice without added sugar. Then replace most sweets with fruits. Eat sandwiches instead of burgers, yogurt instead of ice cream. Don't replace ALL junk food though. Don't deny yourself the sweet taste of fats on occasion! That's just for cardio and overall body efficiency. If you want to gain muscle, ask someone else. This 135 pound, 5' 10" commenter cannot help you with that.

Giving up all fats is very unhealthy. In fact, you need lots of good fats, unsaturated, and especially the omega 3 fatty acids they contain. It's saturated fat that you have to watch. Trans fat of course should be avoided.

To gain muscle work out and use a lot of weight but less reps!

Well it could have been a really bigass sofa.

i know, i'm normally the guy with advice, but...yeah. it may not even apply here. it's likely that op is a bit out of shape, but he could just as easily be dehydrated. after all, most people don't drink enough water. so, guys, please don't get all bent outta shape! :D |the kid|

Most likely both. Most people don't just declare themselves "grossly out of shape" unless they actually are. But the "almost blacked out" part screams dehydration.

Well, hell, OP, if you want to change it, you will! I empathize, though, been there, done that, finally got off my big butt a year and a half ago and got back in shape-all kinds of calorie counting stuff free on the internet!
