Today, I received a 4 page letter in the post from a woman telling me she was Alan's wife. She spoke about their wedding in 2004, their two beautiful kids who love their daddy very much (she included pictures), and how much she loves him. Alan is my husband of 7 years. FML

Hey, you had him first. Seriously though, this is so sad :

Seven years and you didn't notice ANYTHING strange?

pretty sure someone said it earlier, but its possible this woman is a genuine kentucky fried crazy nut job. I'd want some proof, and i'd give her proof as well.

Which means that you're his real wife unless he got married to her in a country that allows polygamy, but even then, you'd still the only woman who gets any marriage rights from it. Of course, that's assuming that you'll still be married to him for long (unless the woman turns out to be a nutter). It'd suck even more for the kids though - not only are they not legitimate, but this kind of crap could damn well traumatize them. That sucks. :(

Umm... I call bullshit. If you didn't realize that your husband started going missing for extended periods of time about 5 years ago than you're the SINGLE most gullible person in the world, mentally retarded, or just too stupid to be breathing. He had two kids with her and a wedding - which I'm sure included a honeymoon. You're telling me you didn't realize he was missing during this time? Whose bed did he sleep in? Did he swap houses every other day? When he vanished for the birth of these kids, you didn't notice? If you're gonna make up an FML, at least make it believable.

you r a retard....this happens all the time. stop calling fake if you don't know the real world.

I doubt her first instinct was to post on FML after finding out her husband may be a polygamist. So, come on, of course it's fake (like 90% of posts), or at least had a happy ending (like mental illness).

Plenty of men and women spend weeks away from their families for work. He could of easily juggled two sets of families if this is the case. Say he's gone 3 weeks home 2 weeks. On the gone week he'd be with the other wife. Also he might run his own business which allows him to travel for extended periods. It's not so uncommon that men have separate lives so this is definitely plausible.

Actually this is almost believable. It's possible he travels a lot for work, like weeks at a time. It wouldn't be that hard to pull off if say on woman lived in London and the other lived in Bath (or something). He has to go there for work often and plays it as traveling for 2 weeks there and 2 weeks with her. Or they live in the same town making it that much easier. "Oh honey just popping out for a little to hang with the guys." If it's thought out and planned it's not hard. I feel rather sorry for these ladies if it is true.

hay you considered that it may be fake? there are some very sick people out there?

#66, Alan would be a bigamist, not a polygamist. Polygamy is commonly used to describe a situation that encompasses many spouses who are aware of each other, whereas typically bigamy is used to describe a situation where a man has married more than one woman and the women are all unaware of wach other. Also, the difference is that (at least in the USA) bigamy is typically a misdemeanor offense, whereas polygamy is a felonious offense due to our puritanical laws (because it's better to deceive a grip of women than to be honest and live with them all openly, because of some perceived bullshit moral code in which men are seen as superior unless they snub god openly...? Never quite understood some of the laws in this country).

My uncle Scot did this to his two wives. He said he was going to work, but in fact he had been collecting disability ever since a childhood accident, so he never had to work, giving him all day with one wife and her kids, and then telling her he had to go to his night job, and spending the evenings with his other wife and kids and 'going to work' in the mornings. He claimed to be working at the Naval Shipyard, so no wonder they couldn't visit him at 'work' or any of that crap. the wives were idiots, though. Um, you never see his paychecks? Taxes, please? if you have medical insurance, who is it through?

Sorry, forgot to say how it turned out. His son from the first wife was in second grade when his daughter from the other wife joined kindergarten. The school contacted the mothers asking for security information validation, since every adult that has the right to sign for a child or take them from the school must show ID. He was smart enough to use his stepfather's last name through the second marriage and his legal last name through the first marriage, but couldn't prove it on ID when he came to pick his daughter up from school. That and same email and street addresses, cell, etc. Not to mention his son spotting him at school with a little girl several times. From a legal point, the second marriage wasn't legally binding. There was a ceremony at a church and a false license, and the priest wasn't a priest, it was a friend of his.
