Today, I received the 'special' present my mother had sent me for my 21st birthday. I opened the box and saw that my mother had picked out, accessorized and shipped to me, in college, a doll. FML

Today, I came home a day after my birthday, and was greeted by my mother who told me, "Oh, I have birthday present for you." She explained that she and my father went on a hike, and handed me my present. I got a fucking stick for my birthday. FML

Break it open and see if there's money inside. No, but you should keep it, it's a gift from your mom and it's special to her. Keep it in a box in your closet, but when she comes over, put it up on your dresser.

I agree. I am so sick of people who think they need to be treated like royalty just because it's their birthday. it may be conventional to give gifts to the birthday person but no one has to do it.

your mom rules. you are SUPPOSED to use your college brain to figure out you can hide BOTTLES OF BOOZE in the doll, thus smuggling the party anywhere you go, even if outside booze is banned.
