Today, I returned home to find out that my new and very expensive computer had overheated. I confronted my mom, and she told me that she had covered up the fan because she didn't like the noise. FML

Not going to bother reading all comments...but I'm going to assume the OP's computer was a notebook (which are much more susceptible to overheating than a desktop), which gets me to wondering--don't most "new and very expensive" laptops have an auto-shutdown feature if they get too hot? I know mine does. In that case, the OP fails at life. Just turn the damn computer on and quit yer bitchin'.

But his mum covered the fan so any computer would overheat

umm btw almost all new CPUs shut down before the point of breakage so im assuming that it works or you got a faulty product

I tried to wipe your comment off my screen before I realized it was a period and I am stupid. :(

all overheating is gonna do to your computer if your to much of a dumbass to set it to shut down after it reaches is melt your hard drive

That is completely and utterly wrong. Processors have heat sinks for a reason. They are very susceptible to heat damage.

"Melt the hard drive"? What planet are you from where metal melts at the same temperature that water boils? 'Cause that all the temperature it needs for a CPU to overheat, and once that overheats it'll either start to fry, or, it'll shut down to protect itself, depending on how new it is.

Oh shit, that sucks. You should make her pay for a new one. FYL.

I'm glad my mom is too insecure to even loose a screw of a pc.

same here, but honestly, why don't you just shut your pc off if you're going to be out for a while?
