Mindless optimism. That's funny, considering that I'm just about the only person here making a rational argument, instead of all the petty insults. And I'm not sure how you got the idea I was saying anything optimistic. I never said he should roll over and take her back again, or anything like that. He SHOULD cut her out of his life, because she isn't going to change, but that doesn't mean he should turn to aggression and hatred. My point is that if you truly care about a person, like I hope you would for a romantic partner, it ought to be largely for their own sake, not just how their actions affect you or what you stand to gain from them. So if you're cursing them to Hell the moment they cause you pain, it implies you never cared about their well being at all, only how they made you feel. It is possible to stand up for yourself AND to offer forgiveness at the same time. A mature human being ought to be able to hold compassion even for a person who has done something wrong. Otherwise you get a society full of hostile, vindictive people all suspicious of each other and not giving a damn about anything but their own wants--kind of like the world we live in. It's funny how when an FML comes up where some angry person seeking revenge for being cheated on targets the wrong person, everyone shouts how crazy and stupid they must be, but when somebody posts about being cheated on, everyone screams to get revenge.
