Today, I told my parents I was thinking about joining the army. They looked at each other and laughed for about 10 minutes straight. I wasn't joking. FML

Maybe they were laughing to hide their worries?

Thinking and doing are two different things. Show them what you're really made of!

Did you stub your toe on the couch, fall down crying? Thats why.

My family did the same to me when I was 17. 9 years later I still get the last laugh cuz they thought I was being funny. Best advice I have for you: don't think about it just do it. It's one of the only ways to shut everyone up.

Maybe they were laughing at the faces they made at each other.

That's that time when you prove how great you are in your contribution to the army.

Don't think any of it, OP. I'm trying to join the Army too and my parents, who are both Army vets, had something to say about it. Ignore them and do what you wanna do!

Nothing wrong with joining the army, but unless you manage to get your dream mos, you should consider the airforce. I don't regret my time in the army, but it wasn't the most fun thing I ever did. I hear they take better care of their people and when we would get into cross-branch discussions the Air Force people seemed to enjoy their service much more than we did ours. To be sure, the military of any branch is definitely the experience of a lifetime whatever your path, tho.

Hey, don't feel bad op. embrace it, I faced many years of ridicule for saying I wanted to be a navy SEAL, mainly due to the fact I was very overweight. I lost one hundred pounds to make weight and joined the navy. I went to pre-bud/s ,and there sadly is the closest I came to that dream. still, I went farther than anyone thought. just bust your ass and neglect any negativity.

Well ya tried Frenchy so I gotta respect that.
