I joined up while I was in college and wanted to go active duty and my family never supported me. I did great but they wanted me to take a different path. If it is burning in your heart, trust me, do it and worry about you.
ten hut is marines. but good try
I've been in 12 years so far. If you need someone to talk to, I will be far more honest with you then any recruiter ever will.
As someone currently in the Army, going on 10 years now, I would say don't do it. The is not what it used to be. If you do decide anyway, get your education and go officer or join the Air Force
you should join the airforce, not the army!
they think your a puss but PROVE 'EM WRONG! Please!!!!!
I think they were laughing to hide their worries man.
After 13yrs in here's what I've learned and what I wish someone would've told me. 1- Pick a job you like BUT that you can also use on the outside(medical, counterintelligence, and a few others are really good); go on the Army's website to research jobs and then go to armyreenlistment.com and look for something called "in/out calls" its the manning strength of each job and tells you which ones need people and which ones don't and it's what the recruiters will use. 2- Don't go after the bonus if it's offered- because it's more than likely going to be for a different job. Stick to your guns and get what YOU want. 3- Start your Roth-TSP day 1(TSP is like the Army 401k but if you do the Roth option when you get out you can roll it over to a civilian Roth without penalties or taxes. 4- Stay single or don't have kids(pick one) 5- Keep a hard copy of your medical records. Don't listen to the doc when he say's "It's in the system" AHLTA is the third worse computer program ever; right after Healthcare.gov and Windows. 6- hand carry(and have copies of) all important documents(i.e. packets for Airborne, SF, Ranger, Warrant Officer, etc..) S-1(personnel office) will lose that shit. 7- Go to school and have a running civilian/federal resume while you're in. Just because you plan on doing 20yrs and retiring doesn't mean you won't get hurt or sick and get a MEB(Medical Evaluation Board) 8- CID is NOT your friend. Even if you had nothing to do with what they called you in for; LAWYER UP 9- Don't judge the Army based on a few douchebag NCO's (and you will have some) get promotedand be the NCO you wish they were. 10- Go to Germany at least once if you can(single or without kids is best) Hope you paid attention and some of this sticks in your head. A lot of it I learned the hard way. Good luck and thanks.
I'm curious about point 10. Why germany?
Stay single/don't have kids? I don't have kids, but I enjoyed military life more after i got married for various reasons. I take it you have/had a family that you resent because you feel as if they possibly held you back from something? I will say this though, op. If you join watch who you get with/date/marry. I saw many get "used" while I was in.
Don't do it! Join a cool branch like the Navy or Marines!

Thinking and doing are two different things. Show them what you're really made of!
