let thier lack of faith fuel your determination!
Its not always easy to make your own choices when parents are telling you not to do it, but you know what your goal and purpose is, go for it!
It's okay. My dad told me I wouldn't make it through day one of boot camp. I am a veteran now. Served nearly three years in the US Navy. I also found out my dad went AWOL from the Army Reserves shortly after boot camp. I was actually deployed. Lol.
Capital idea. Join and prove them wrong.
Maybe their laughter is a mask to hide that they don't want you going to the most stupid, senseless war since 'Nam, where no matter what you do it will never accomplish anything and if you manage to come home alive and in one piece you'll very likely have PTSD and be seriously messed up inside from seeing death all around you and having to murder people. That's right, murder. F all our L for war.
Really unless you have gone to college it's not worth it this is coming from a man who was in the army but I was an officer army enlisted get treated like shit so again unless you have gone to college don't go army.

I told my grampa I wanted to go to the Naval Academy @ Annapolis and did the same. My dad in all seriousness told his dad to stfu, lol.

Maybe they were laughing to hide their worries?
Thinking and doing are two different things. Show them what you're really made of!
