Today, I tried convincing my Valentine-hating boyfriend to send me a card, by explaining how important it is to me. He finally agreed and sent me a card. I opened it up, and it wished me 'harmony and well-being on Lupercalia'. What is Lupercalia? It's an ancient Roman festival where men run down the street naked, whipping people with goat skins to encourage fertility. FML

That's why you shouldn't force your boyfriend to do nice things for you. It won't happen (and with good reason).

Lupercalia is what Valentines day is derived(distorted ?) from... What are you whining about ? You wanted a Valentines card ? you got a Valentines card, an educational one, which in this new light might make you reconsider you superficial Valentines whims... I bet most people wouldn't be so keen on V day if they knew what it was originally about, which used to make some sense... If you are to celebrate, make sure you know what your are celebrating...

actually, #222, Valentines is originally about St.Valentines death. Hence the name

What I meant was, the fact that people are requested to celebrate love on V day comes from those ancient times when people celebrated love in such a way (the spank-my-bumbum-with-goat-skin rituals ^^) that it was meant to boost fertility. So pple celebrated for a reason they knew of. That was my point ^^ BTW people at the time certainly knew how to have fun !! :-p

He was probably just trying to be funny about it. At least your boyfriend has a sense of humor.

what a genius, and you got your card so shut up

"...by explaining how important it is to me." so if he DIDN'T send you a card you'd /slit? it's nice to get a card on Valentine's Day but if you force your boyfriend to do that then how would you expect him to get you a NICE card? if he didn't feel like giving you one in the first place?

ok it's not an fml but how hard is it for him to get her a card and put something small in it like I'm thinking of you? it'd make her happy and I'm sure there's something that he'll want that she doesn't have the same opinion about later. it'd be different if she was begging for chocolate, roses and a candle lit dinner but it was just a card.

Then everything she wants turns into "it's important to me" just to get her way, no matter how stupid and with no regard to him. How hard is it for her to think "it's only a card and actually means nothing"?

Cupid - Boyfriend 0 - 1 Goed geregeld ;)

You got what you asked for. Also, YDI for trying to cram a moronic, callous holiday down your BF's throat.

Your boyfriend is apparently cleverer than you. So yes, fyl. But, at the same time, ydi. =] Lupercalia is one of the many ancient holidays that somehow got bastardized into Vday. So, in a sense he gave you exactly what you asked for. Man deserves a high five.

...If you don't want him, I'll have him. I would LOVE a Lupercalia card! YDI for not appreciating the AWESOME.
