Today, I tried convincing my Valentine-hating boyfriend to send me a card, by explaining how important it is to me. He finally agreed and sent me a card. I opened it up, and it wished me 'harmony and well-being on Lupercalia'. What is Lupercalia? It's an ancient Roman festival where men run down the street naked, whipping people with goat skins to encourage fertility. FML

Today, as part of a charity project called Operation Valentine, I worked with 150 other volunteers to make care packages and Valentine's Day cards to send to the troops in Afghanistan, thanking them for their courage. My boyfriend called the cards "cheating" and now refuses to see me. FML

I find it sad that nobody knows what Valentine's Day is really about. I doubt anyone who reads this even knows who St. Valentine was. Anyone want a free history lesson? Take a knee. Back in the day the Roman army wouldn't let their soldiers get married because they didn't want them to have attachments to their life. So St. Valentine would marry the couples in secret. Eventually the army found out and executed him on February 14th. Before his execution, the couples that were married by him visited him in jail and gave him cards expressing their gratitude, hence the tradition of giving people Valentines.

thus further proving how stupid a holiday it really is. I hate valentines gifts yet every boyfriend I have had and all of my friends still insist on giving me pink things and candy! I think my friends do it because they think it's funny that I hate pink and don't eat candy. the holiday itself SUCKS!
