Today, I've been without hot water for three days thanks to a frozen water line. I finally managed to thaw the frozen area, only to have the chunk of ice dislodge, slam into a bend in the pipe, and burst the line. FML

Whenever I read that "haww", I get a very persistent image of a human with a donkey head laughing over a glass of champagne... But anyway, it totally does suck.

Damn, you were better off with the frozen pipe. Call one if those 24/7 plumbing places! Good luck OP!

You deserved it; you can read up online how to properly thaw your frozen pipes on the red cross website, your break from "freakishly strong ice" is common and caused by the pressure build up between the frozen pipe and a closed line/faucet. You should also learn how to prevent this from happening again. I updated all my galvanized steel with copper pipes, because the steel was weak and corroded. Home Ownership 101. . . Ive insulated my hot water pipes, but this can happen to cold water pipes too. . .you can leave a faucet open during cold temps to prevent this.
