Today, I walked to Starbucks. On the way a homeless guy asked me for change and I lied and said I had no money. On my way back, Strawberry Frappuccino in hand, the same guy recognized me. He followed me for 3 blocks, swearing and yelling at me. FML

you're not obliged to give your money to a bum anyway!

Haha. This happened to me once, just keep on walking and drop a couple of quarters to keep him occupied while you make an escape.

29, just because you're homeless doesn't mean you're worthless. Stereotyping is a bitch move. OP, You deserve it for being selfish and inconsiderate.

Selfish and inconsiderate? Maybe OP genuinely didn't have money and used a card. I hate it how people are calling OP mean. It's not like they meant to hurt the homeless man, maybe they didn't want to be bothered. Just because they aren't being Mother Theresa doesn't mean they're mean

I complete support what the OP did and what #2 said, i work for my money he should too I'm not trying to be mean or selfish, i just believe that begging for money is disgusting

Haha, should've turned round and said "Yeah, I didn't have any spare change. I needed it to buy myself a drink..."

Well, I understand why some people say YDI because you lied to him, but you're not obligated to give anyone else money for nothing in return. There is a possibility he is homeless because of extreme misfortune, but there's also a chance it could be his fault and if you gave money to every beggar on the off chance that he deserves it, you'd have nothing left for yourself. And anyway, he shouldn't have followed you and swore at you no matter what. A guilt-inducing glare will do just fine, jeez.

First off, how is thisreally an FML? Ok now a rant about bums... Believe it or not, some people choose to be bums. I have no idea why. I mean if they can go to a homeless shelter, bathe themselves, find someone to give them some clean clothes andbthen go look, they are bound to find a job somewhere! And that's why I never give them money. Because they want people to feel sorry for them and help, when they can't even bother to at least TRY help themselves. Next time, throw the coffee at him and start screaming. Get people's attention then run off.

Dude, are you serious? Not every city has a homeless shelter. Even those that do are almost always full. I've been homeless. In Florida. It was bloody horrifying. It wasn't by choice. It's a long story, but bad luck led me to that situation. Homeless in Florida for over 2 months. I can't express how bad it is. Just getting food is a miracle. Getting clean clothes and a shower? A practical impossibility. Getting a job is hard EVEN under ABSOLUTELY IDEAL circumstances. How the HELL do you expect a homeless person to "just get a job eventually" when even people with homes, meals, showers, clean clothes can't? Give me a break man. People don't understand the situation at all.

Or just say you used plastic? That's what I do. Or I tell them to **** off. I don't care if I "hurt their feelings". They're just going to waste it anyway.

gdude756, there is nothing selfish about not giving a homeless person money. I don't know how it is over where you live, but over here, it's not a good idea. Most of them waste the money on drugs and alcohol. A lot of them are ungrateful. One time, this woman gave a homeless man a $1 and he said "I don't want no damn dollar, bitch!" When you kindly decline, they get really upset, sometimes belligerent. It's better to give them food or offer to pay for a meal...

#46... some people actually make enough money being bums, why would they ever try to be anything else?
