Today, I walked to Starbucks. On the way a homeless guy asked me for change and I lied and said I had no money. On my way back, Strawberry Frappuccino in hand, the same guy recognized me. He followed me for 3 blocks, swearing and yelling at me. FML

you're not obliged to give your money to a bum anyway!

Haha. This happened to me once, just keep on walking and drop a couple of quarters to keep him occupied while you make an escape.

**** You! Just give him some money. He just wants to buy some booze and drugs. Even Homeless need to have fun.

Giving money to someone on the street helps no one. Giving them food doesn't particularly help, either. All those things do is make it easier for them to stay where they are. It's the old give a man a fish adage. If you truly want to help the homeless, find organizations that provide services to help them get off the street... ones that provide job training, addiction treatment, psychological counselling, etc. A soup kitchen in my city has an apprenticeship program where people who are homeless and are accepted can work in the kitchen for six months. Most move on to either restaurant jobs, or continue on with culinary schooling. That sort of thing is truly helpful.

I submitted a better one. In Chicago, I saw a blind guy with a sign that said, "blind and diabetic and need money for insulin." my dad has diabetes, so I understood how hard it was. I gave him the last if my money for food. I walked away, and looked back. This really attractive woman went by, and he pulled up his sunglasses and checked her out! He wasn't really blind. I was duped.

how come people keep saying its his fault and he needs to get off his butt and get a job! has anyone actually watched the news recently and noticed we are in a recession it might not be his fault! And yes i say you deserve it because you blatantly lied to him just so you can go get a pretty expensive drink instead of giving another human a dollar. while at starbucks you could has asked for a muffin or a bottle of water for him so you know it wont be for anything bad! if you see someone who needs help you chould help them if you can and not just lie to them to be selfish.

stop being hypocrites, we all know that if it were us, we would lie too. so yes, you did the right thing. you dont have to give him money if you dont want to, and he was obviously nuts because he chased you afterwards.

FYL. I don't know why all these idiots in here think you deserved it. I don't give money away either. And, who's to say you paid with change? I use my card for almost everything and never have change-in-pocket.

Even though you are not obliged to give him anything would it have killed you to spare a dollar
