Op's mum still assumed she a) knew what was going on (never a good move) and b) that she had the right to slap op because she didn't like what she was doing, if you're old enough for a nose ring you're too old to have your actions physically adjusted by your parents

D: OWWW! I just got my nose pierced a couple days ago and the other night when I was washing my face my nose ring got caught on the washcloth. I thought THAT was painful because it jerked my nose ring a little. I can't imagine having it just ripped out. FYL

I stand corrected. It is snobbish and wrong of me to expect potential employees to dress to standard corporate specifications when I interview them. Please forgive me for thinking otherwise. How foolish I have been. What geniuses have we passed over through the years with our restrictive policies and perceptions? What dynamos and out-of-the-box thinkers have we sent packing because they had a nose ring or a giant tattoo? Foolish, absolutely foolish.

I feel your pain, OP. I know how annoying it is to have your mom slap you for doing something you weren't actually doing. And how painful the result can be. My mom came up and slapped the back of my head the other day when she saw me leaned in close to the mirror. She said she thought I was trying to pop a pimple. I was actually trying to get an eyelash out of my eye, and she made me stab myself in the eye with my thumbnail :(

I have taken a lot of parenting classes. They say that to be a good parent, spanking should stop at the latest by ten. If your child is mature enough to speak and be reasoned with, then the parent should attempt to reason with them. Slapping your teenage child because you think they are "picking their nose" is bad parenting. So yes, she truly hurt her daughter, who sounds almost old enough to be an adult. She should be slapped back for acting like a child.
