Today, I was at the gynecologist and he was performing a routine check-up. He was a new doctor and I was just slightly uncomfortable with him. About mid-check-up, as he felt around my uterus, he said in a cartoonish voice, "Oh, it's so squishy up here." The doctor turned me into a sock puppet. FML

Eh, not so bad.. Maybe he was just trying to break the tension by joking around? I understand the awkwardness of a doctor from the opposite sex feeling your downstairs though :P

All of you people saying that "this is why you have to have a female gynecologist" are sexist pigs and disgust me. If a waitress at a restaurant did something I dislike, should I deny all female servers from then on? What the hell. Hate the person, not the gender.

I'm one of those people who won't even consider going to a male gynecologist. It's not that I think a male gyno would be incompetent or anything, it's just that I don't want a strange man poking around down there - even in a solely medical context. It's bad enough going to the gynecologist at all, but a male doctor makes it even more uncomfortable than it already has to be. Some women don't have this issue, but it's really just a matter of personal preference.

It's not a problem of being sexist, it's just a problem of feeling comfortable or not. Especially when you're young and never went to the gyno before, the idea of having a total stranger examine your "plumbing" is quite unnerving, and some of us (me included) just can't bring it over themselves to go to a male gyno. It doesn't mean we do not trust a male gyno to do a proper job, though.

#159 I agree...I laughed more at all the people screaming "get a female gyno" than at the actual FML *lol* All my gynos have been male and I never had a problem with it. I head so many people say stuff like "They just do that job to look at women's vaginas, that's all they care about"...those people seem to forget that not only hot young girls have gyno appointments, but also 90 -year-old grandmothers and I imagine that a lot of times seeing that kinda stuff would not be so pleasant...plus those doctors really see so many, it means absolutely nothing to them. I always talk to my doctor during the exam, when he does the ultrasound inside me to look at my ovaries and uterus he always shows me on the screen and all and before he does something he tells me exactly what he's gonna do now...there is NOTHING awkward about it...it's their freaking JOB!

ha! maybe he was a pediatrician before, so he was trying to make you more comfortable... but his previous experience was with little kids, so he would actually use sock puppets to make them feel more at ease. Your ****** was the closest thing he could find to a sock... Good improvisational skills, I must say.
