Maybe the doctor was trying to pick you up: "Are you a sponge? Because you're squishy!" And for everyone trying to say that OBGYN's see tons of vaginas...there is always the first, and maybe the OP was this dr's.

i can see why this is uncomfortable for a patient, but at the same time, it sounds really funny.

I would have politely requested a different doctor for the next yearly checkup. That is not my kind of humor at all.
