Today, I was at the store buying some feminine products. At the cash register, the clerk said to me "Dude, you know those are for girls right?" I am a 30 year old woman. FML

It's too bad that he mistook you for a man. But, really it's none of his business. Nice men go out and buy their women feminine hygiene products all the time. He's ignorant and just lonely because he doesn't have a girlfriend.

The cashier was insensitive and stupid, but besides, men can buy feminine products for their partners and it wouldn't be weird?

Even if you were a man the cashier would have had no right to say that... You're bringing the store money by buying their products, the rest isn't their problem. (Unless like #38 said, you're a 12-year-old buying alcohol.)

maybe the cashier was just tryin to be nice? maybe he thought that the OP confused the products and was buying the females version. maybe he was just tryin to help out and make sure the OP wasnt buying the wrong things. maybe it wasnt abt him making fun abt the OP looking like a man, maybe he thought he really was man and he was accidently buying the wrong products? so many things are possible.

Or maybe the cashier was being a douche and should not have made inane comments on a customer's gender appearance. And even if the OP was a man, maybe he could have been buying it for his mom/sister/wife/whatever. Bottom line, cashier should have STFU and simply did his job.

regardless, irockmyworld, there is no excuse for the cashier saying that.

No, not at all. "feminine products" is a very common term meaning: pads and tampons. Menstrual products. There is no male version for that. I doubt the cashier would've reacted so strangely otherwise.

i believe its time to shave your bearded mug

cashiers aren't meant to comment on what you buy, that's like, the first thing they teach them.

that checker needs a lesson in minding his his own business. guys are allowed buy feminine products my husband occasionally picks them up for me if im sick. you need a mirror so you can check yourself before you go out and make sure you look female. since you apparantly do care. (lipstick helps as does a padded bra). stop wearing jeans and tee shirts. get a nice facial and wear girl shoes.

Hey, what's wrong with jeans and t-shirts? Since when do people decide someone is a man because they're wearing jeans? Honestly, some people just don't like dresses and high heels. They're usually either uncomfortable or limiting or both.

It's still very, very possibly to wear jeans with a t-shirt and look feminine. Most girls I see on a daily basis do it. High heels and dresses are certainly pretty and nice to wear, but they're not the only clothes that girls should wear, especially just to the store. There's a good chance that OP just wanted to run there, buy her stuff and go home. Why bust out your fancy clothes for that?

haha. irockmyworld is stupid! women don't buy feminine products because they care about their appearance- they buy them so they don't bleed all over themselves each month. it's not exactly a choice.

wtf. since when does it state that she was buying tampons. **** off bitch

Irockmyworld actually has a point. "Feminine products" is USUALLY a euphemism for tampons/pads/the like, but it could be something else. The feminine hygiene aisle in most stores is usually more than just tampons.

The only time I get mistaken for a man is when I get frustrated with my unruly, curly hair and cut it really short. It's crazy because I dress feminine and I am definitely not flat-chested. Sometimes ignorant people just do not pay attention.
