Today, I was drinking from a water bottle while in a lecture. The water caught in my throat and it felt like I was choking to death. Instead of asking me if I was okay or trying to help, the guy sitting next to me told me to shut up. FML

If you're making enough noise to bother him, you are not in any danger, so shut the **** up! Hopefully, your school offers remedial water-drinking classes to teach you to be able to hydrate yourself without causing a geyser, a cacophony and a hullabaloo, all at the same time.

Have some feelings for others. It's not always about you. If he was chocking I would at least have asked him if he was okay.

What is it with this post and people misspelling *choking? And perdix cares about a lot of people, they just all happen to be imaginary.. ;)

It's bugging me too GoW, maybe they saw it at the start of the post and thought it was correct? Haha

You had a thirst for water. He had a thirst for knowledge. But seriously OP I do honestly think that guy was pretty cruel.

But what if..... (looks at profile picture) *accepts defeat*

that's crazy. he really didn't have to say that if you were choking. I mean c'mon

While it would have been nice if he'd shown some consideration, you could have as well. If you're coughing enough to disrupt people's ability to understand the lecture, the etiquette is to excuse yourself from the room as quietly as you can, not to sit there and choke in your neighbor's ear. This situation is no different than if you had a sneezing fit at a symphony concert or a screaming baby in a restaurant. So, while he might have been an ass about it, you didn't handle the situation well either.

I totally agree. There's more then a few people who don't understand what etiquette is.

that may be true, but you need to learn what prioritizing is. if OP thought she was choking, then she made the right move to stay where she was and try and catch her breath. Not to mention that unless you know in advance that you're gonna cough for a few minutes, getting up and walking over and around desks, people, and chairs in order to leave the room will distract people a lot more than a couple seconds of coughing would. that guys should have asked if you were alright OP, he's an ass

51: it is impossible to choke on water, and even if he/she was choking, we would know he/she wasn't because the lost said OP was coughing. coughing means air is passing through the

My cousin always says that to me when I choke, sneeze, or cough in front of him... Just ignore it, some people are so rude.

people are rude these days no manners , no pride in themselves , no helping other people . If OP had really disrupted the class then the teacher would of said something , so the guy next to her is a douche bag for just being a prick .

Dunno if you've been to college/university, but that simply isn't true in most lecture halls. The prof will continue droning on and if you're sitting next to someone making noise, no matter what it is, that noise will cause you to miss anything the prof says.

Wait...how do you know what choking to death feels like? :P

You= *cough cough* *CHOKE CHOKE* I think I'm choking *cough cough* Guy Beside You= *gives annoyed look* You= *cough cough* Guy Beside You= NO ONE CARES YOUR CHOKING SO SHUT UP

You shouldn't be so useless that you can't even drink water correctly. I say the guy is right for telling her to stfu
