Bread isn't that good for birds. It fills their stomach but lacks nutrients.

For future reference if you see a duck choking and in distress if you can rub his throat it activates the swallowing reflex!

It was a humane way to go. Think of it from his point of view... they love to be fed. Maybe he'd prefer to go that way, just like you'd like to pass in your sleep or during sex. Now, as a country girl, I have to say, it's wasteful not to eat him. You kill it, you eat it.

Even some animals. We choked a mouse once by giving it bread. Even some dogs have choked on bread.
