Although I will admit to having fond childhood memories of feeding bread to ducks, doing so is not a good idea for several reasons. Firstly, bread is high in carbohydrates but is of no nutritional value to ducks (this can lead to a host of nutrition related problems for them - Google for more info). Moderate amounts of bread are okay, but there is no accurate way for any individual to gauge how much bread a duck is being fed by other sources. Bread can also clog and cause ecological damage to waterways. If one wants to feed ducks, halved grapes, shredded lettuce, bird seed, peas, and other grains are much better choices. However, it should always be remembered that taming ducks can ultimately be harmful, as it creates a cycle of dependence and can put them in dangerous situations when seeking food from humans.
Wiki-saturn, thank you for you out put. Ducking 101
"bread can also clog and cause ecological damage to waterways" WTF 51??!! How much bread would that take! Last I checked bread was not considered HAZMAT. **** off and find a tree to hug.
Shit builds up, dude. A little bit isn't harmful, but a lot of little bits? It's not like bread just dissolves or something.
I wasn't aware that bread wasn't biodegradable or had any sort of substantial half-life when placed in water? Who knew. I'm sure soon we will hear of massive flooding of low lying areas caused by bread dams. Is this problem specific to bread or should we enforce a ban on all baked goods? Again, **** off and hug a tree far away from me.
That's probably what the sign "Voer de eenden niet!" is for.
Poor little ducky. May he rest in peace.
You're not supposed to give ducks bread, jackass. You just killed an animal because you never bothered to learn something the rest of us have known since childhood.
#4: Really. I thought it was hilarious
I feel bad for laughing at this one...
