#3 read my mind.... or rather i read his. How can they do that and not double check first? Ugh....
LOL, i'm named after my mum, too. That's why i use my middle name instead.
Why are so many people here so retarded (6, 18, 20)? Have you ever BEEN on an airplane? This type of thing happens all the time. If the airlines have never, ever done something absolutely ridiculous to you that could have been easily rectified if the damn people weren't so incapable of doing simple tasks, you can't even imagine how FML worthy this really is. Okay, rant over. Just as long as no one else underestimates the stupidity of airports or the pain of waiting in them. OP: That sucks! I'm sorry you had to deal with that! Nothing annoys me more than when assumptions made by other people lead to my suffering. FYL
so for everyone who thinks airports can't do that... they can, and they do. Sometimes people will book two tickets just for themselves just in case they flight overbooks, or if they're not sure if someone will be coming with them, they want an extra just in case (I know it sounds stupid, but we live in America, I wouldn't put anything past some people). Sometimes people are overly obese and need 2 seats. Lots of reasons. So if a flight fills up, airlines anticipate people's paranoia and cancel the extra ticket. Also, I have the same name as my mom, and by sheer coincidence my grandmother and aunt on my dad's side. The 4 of us and the rest of my family were going to my uncle's wedding, and they canceled 3 of our tickets. They put us on the next flight, but it was still annoying. So yes, it does happen. I'm living proof.
But wouldn't you see the refund in your account if they automatically canceled the tickets? I agree it would majorly suck, but I also have to say YDI for not checking your statements. I know it's busy right before you fly, but I ALWAYS make sure to check confirmations and my accounts before I leave. And if they canceled your tickets without refunding the money, law suit.
This is why I fly Delta!! They don't make those kind of changes without consulting the customer first. And if by some chance they did you better believe you'll get a giant apology and you'll be on the next flight for sure.
Why would you give your child the same name as you? I know lots of men do that, it's traditional, but I didn't know it still happened and with girls' names. To people saying it wouldn't happen, my dad booked us all tickets to NY last year and then had to buy an extra ticket immediately after, so BA thought he'd bought more than he needed to by mistake but they called before they tried to cancel it.

Why wouldn't they like call you or something and ask if it's a mistake instead of just cancelling your tickets? I know plenty of people that have the same names, especially if they're related.
Can they do that?
