thats_not_good tells us more.
The tattoo is on my shoulder blade, and it's a Celtic knot that I drew up myself. The artist was filling in the shading in the knot after finishing the outline when he started filling in an area on the wrong side of the line. He ended up fixing it so the design came out symmetrical, and it looks really good. No regrets and no worries.

aaah should have done more research honey...
Well! it sucks but its definatly not the worst! I've had a patient end up as a paraplegic from an infected tatoo that went wrong!
YDI, not because you got a tattoo, but because you obviously didnt bother doing any research to find a decent artist who wouldn't screw up the tattoo. If the artist was any good he wouldn't have screwed it up, and even if he did, he certainly wouldn't have panicked and said that stuff, he would have just quietly fixed it without freaking you out.
Tattoos are NOT a bad idea, if you get them done right. It's not like shopping for clothes where you can just walk in and get it over with. You have to do some research, look for reviews (don't always trust all internet reviews, use of common sense advisable), ask for recommendations, go through their portfolio, check the shop for hygiene, ask from the artists especially if it's your first tattoo. They're not all the same, there can be HUGE differences between tattoo parlors, and sad but true, the few bad ones can give tattoos a bad reputation. So choose your parlor wisely and get in line, usually good places have longer lines but it's worth the wait. FYL - it wasn't your fault, the tattooist did a mistake (but hey, atleast "they can fix it") YDI - it was your fault, for not choosing a better tattooist
As soon as I saw, "I was getting my first tattoo done," I clicked YDI.
Wow, that really sucks. I hope they were able to fix it! And I just love all the close-minded, stuck up assholes on here saying YDI for getting a tat.. I see nothing wrong with getting them, as long as they are well thought out and placed tastefully.. Oh, and you definitely have to do your research. Ask friends with tats where they got theirs - that's what I did. I now have two beautiful tattoos - a rose commemorating my grandfather and a phoenix symbolizing beating my addiction. I'm planning on getting a third, a memorial for my cousin who died.

It was a bad idea.
Yeah, bad idea... sounds like if you try it again you should do a little research to figure out the best tattoo parlor in your area...
