Today, I was lecturing my high school students on the importance of a good education. I pointed out the janitor in the hall and told them if they didn't stay in school, they'd end up like him. Then one of my students raised her hand and reminded me that the janitor I pointed to was her dad. FML

Today, the mother of one of my students bitched me out about her son's poor grades. He lazes around all day, paying no attention and being a constant nuisance. But, she says it's not his fault, and demands that I give him better grades so he won't get "self-esteem" issues. FML

Today, I lectured my second-grade class to be more descriptive in their writing. I gave them an assignment to describe something in the classroom. I was grading their work later, and one student wrote, "My class is taught by a fat teacher with gray hair." FML

Today, I was sent to an elementary school for safety day. One of the dads was asking about my job, when I told him about the long hours and high stress involved. He turned to his son and said, "Now see why you stay in school?" I'm a paramedic. With a bachelor's degree. FML

Today, I was doing my job and trying to teach a lazy bunch of 16-year-olds. A girl entered the room just 15 minutes before class ended, so I snapped, "Someone had better have died for you to be this late!" She immediately burst into tears. Turns out, someone had. FML

Today, I had to go to my 10 year-old son's school to talk about my job being a chef. As I was almost finished, I asked the kids "What would you like to do when you grow up?" Without hesitation one kid replied with a straight face, "Anything but being a douchebag like you." FML

You should have been honest and told them that their high school diploma, and all the worship that goes with finishing k-12, is worthless. The college bachelors is the new HS graduate.

That is really mean. You don't know, people might actually like that job, and here you are putting it as a bad thing. How about next time, you say they have less chances to get a high paying job if they don't stay in school, not ridicule someone actually having a job that they might love to have and helps pay the bills. YDI.

Janitors get paid about the same if not more than a lot of teachers and others who have suffered through more years of formal education. I have a degree and have considered quitting my job to make more as a janitor.

Seriously, I feel sorry for you! Usually people who tend to put others down ( like you did), have low self esteem. On the other hand, that girl, Pointing it out in front of her class mates, knows that there's nothing to be ashamed of. Looks like the janitor does a better job raising kids than you, teacher. You should seek his advice in that field, if he has some free time!

I agree so much. It could have been an awkward miss steps from the teacher, but the fact that she deliberately used that man working outside her classroom as an example just proves how insensitive she is. I do think OP has self-esteem problems. The girl is a good kid for not being to ashamed to tell it is her father, not every kid would have that courage.

Ydi, maybe you shouldn't teach your students to be judgmental like you. You have no idea what goes on in someones household. At least he's working and trying. If I was that janitors daughter you would of gotten a punch in the face.

That really is disrespectful OP. My uncle is a janitor and he has actually saved up enough money to spend the year travelling across Europe. Just because someone has a job that others may find unappealing does not mean they're uneducated. YDI 100%.
