It's a very large miss conception, my dad had a similar response when I was first diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder. My compulsions are more food related and words and obsessive intrusive thoughts. I am not a messy person but cleaning is not one of my compulsions. I find it really disheartening how many people don't know much about the mental illnesses and disorders that effect thousands of people. Heads up OP your mum is likely not the only person who will make an uneducated comment about the disorder, it happens more than it really should.
