Today, I was turned down for a job as a cashier at Best Buy. I worked like hell to get into and then graduate from one of the top Telecommunication schools in the country. I spent all my time with extracurriculars to help my resume instead of partying like my friends. I can't even be a cashier. FML

You sound like a driven individual that will give a sustained effort to excel. You are clearly not Best Buy material. Take your rejection as a compliment.

Hate to break it to ya, best buy employees all they do... party... def over qualified.. start partying and thennnn u'll get hired

dude everyone's right. You're majorly overqualifed. They won't give cashier jobs to people who will go find a better place to work. I'm a high school graduate and I'm lucky to get my best buy job, and I had to move 14 hours away from my home state to get it too, (spent over a year looking for a job, moved away and got this best buy job within two weeks) But yea, if you have an Aldi's around where you work, go apply there. Apparently most of their cashiers have degrees and they make way more as cashiers then employees at best buy do.

You prob over qualified. btw y u trying to be a cashier with a degree? I wouldn't even be a cashier and I don't have a degree! apply for a department at least!

I've tried out to work at best buy and didn't get the job either. don't worry. happens to the best of us.

YDI for not researching an already over-saturated market before you dove into it. Also, don't apply at Best Buy - their hiring process is patently insane. Oh, and if you really wanted to start retail this close to Black Friday, then I'd say that you're not that far from certifiable yourself.

don't worry, it's not just you times are tough :( but don't give up!

They won't hire you because they know you will not stay. They want the person they hire to be less educated so the company has a reason to think they are putting money (training) into someone that will stay. Next time you want an "entry level" job, then do not put your educational background down. Just say you are looking for a long-term employment opportunity and want to work from the bottom up.

that's not a FML. U worked hard. Not getting a job at Best Buy is not a reflection of ALL ur accomplishments. U will get the job u deserve :)

There IS such a thing as being overqualified, dude. If a cashier at Best Buy was your dream job, you shouldn't have gone to college.
