I think they would've come to the same decision, whether you had 'hobo hair' or not. Because free-spirited creativity comes from your PERSONALITY; except now the person on top of the personality is simply better-groomed =) aka: don't freak. It's not your hair, obviously. Interview at a few other places =)

Why do I think it was your portfolio that probably didn't impress them and not your appearance? I know several graphic artists and they can tell you it doesn't matter how you look (to a degree), it is your work and research into the company and customers that impress...oh and personality too.

Just to piss off my brother (who is in art school), I tell him he goes to a school for Pinch Pots and Stick Figures. Works every time. However, I know art is hard god damn work, and I appreciate all those that make art in that sense.

The harsh reality is that, in the estetic line of work, your work speaks more for you then you outfit. They probably would have said no even if you kept the hobo-style. On the positive side: You got a decent looking suit to wear at special occasions. Yey!
