Today, I watched my father attempt to light a cigar with the stove and end up burning off some hair and eyebrows. He tried to play it cool, said, "Haircuts are too expensive these days anyway." and walked out, his head smoking. This man is a college professor. FML

#9 Obviously meant that at least the dad didn't relocate the house to Fiya located in Koulikoro, Mali.

I believe your father has given new meaning to the phrase "Lighting up". Perhaps this close shave should ignite his desire to give up? Oh and good luck trying to get rid of the smell of singed/burnt human hair. Urgh, horrible.

Ah, the unexpected puns. Thanks. Yeah, burnt human hair is gross.

I quit 12mths ago, best decision ever. $20 AUD for a pack of 25's is ridiculous! I was handing over good money 3-4 times a week to kill myself slowly, give the government yet more money in tax revenue, have the "cigarette stank" absorb into all fabrics and porous surfaces, the constant collection of butts and the discoloration of teeth, fingers, eyes and if you smoked inside, the ashtrays, grime on the walls and floor, ash billowing everywhere and the never ceasing hunt for the lighter you just bought. Good luck OP. Hope your dad listens to reason.

You realize it says cigar right? Most people don't smoke cigars buy the pack

128. Yes, I know what OP wrote & i am aware that cigars aren't smoked by the pack. However, to reiterate my previous points; Cigars & Cigarettes= Tobacco, Nicotine and all the other chemicals used in them= Paying money to die faster+ the toxicity and odour of the smoke. I stand by my previous comments.

He only does so on special occasions, new years. Not anything to worry about.

He definitely has a point. Haircuts are expensive and he found a cheaper way to do it.

Your dad sounds awesome. Be glad you have a dad with a sense of humor and not some cranky person.

I actually am very appreciative of his free-willing style of living.

Just proves that even really smart people sometimes do really stupid stuff.

Does your dad do things like this often?

Quite often, as I've noticed. It's painful to watch his smart stupidity.

I'm imagining his hair looking something like your pic, close?

#72, awesome! My dad was a philosophy professor, too! I think they are often cogitating about the big questions of life that mundane details just don't interest them.

Oh, cool! They are interesting people, I must say. Also, I noticed that you are perdix, and you are awesome.

op, you are awesome. So is your dad :')! This is such a brilliant FML!

Ahh who hasn't set themselves on fire trying to light a smoke

He has been teaching 26 years now I believe

Has he taught anything besides literature in the past?

how come it says you posted this from Turkey but your profile says you live in Athens, Greece? Did you go on a trip? :)
