What a cheap ****... You should have ordered a big Mac combo
I've noticed in general most of the comments are calling the guy cheap ****, saying he's not a keeper etc., but I wasn't aware that the first date was suppose to be a some big extravaganza, further in on the relationship yeah, maybe he was broke but really like this person so he did the only thing he could. First dates are suppose to be about getting to know one another, finding the spark, and talking, or am I completely off base on this one?
^^ It has nothing to do with the money, he's just not creative enough to think of something better then McDonalds. There are MUCH better places you can go on a first date that are completely free or at least the same price as McDonalds and much nicer. Yeah, a first date is about getting to know each other, but do you really want to do that with a bunch of snotty little kids running around screaming?
84- i agree with you 100%. It is about finding someone that you can connect with! Its not about the money or being creative. All the little kiddies on here have very high expections for a first date. As i mentioned on here before, i have been with my current girl for 3 years. And our first date was at maccas, we were there for 5 hours. Its a day I wont forget! It is all about the person youre with!!!!
Good point 112 but why is everyone ignoring the fact that OP did nothing but go along with it. At any time she could've taken the date elsewhere. I understand girls have this fairy tale fantasy thing but at any time she could've stepped up. Instead of sitting there complaining do something don't expect to be catered to. It's unfortunate that he didn't feel it was worth more than a happy meal but it was still more than what she put up. If she wasn't willing to pay then the date wasn't worth anything to her either
I agree with you 174, she could have taken the date in her own direction if she wanted more out of it. However, speaking as a silly girl who lives in a fantasy fairy tale world, it's nice to be wined and dined and fussed over. Shallow and naive? Absolutely, 100%. But still.
There is a difference between the date saying, "Hey, I don't have a lot of money, I thought we could get some fries and get to know one another." From the way Op phrased it, her date pretty much just said "you aren't worth the money, have a fry." Op should not expect people to pay her way or passively sit back and let the world happen to her. But the date was not exactly trying very hard either.
Yeah, Wendy's is better! They can make one baked potato into a meal in itself! The cheese sauce is questionable, though…
I get being frugal. But if you want to be frugal on a first date, maybe a drink and a shared slice of cake in a coffee shop - going dutch - would be a better option? At least you'd be less likely to be surrounded by obnoxious children.
Exactly. I'd take a hot chocolate and half a cupcake over McDonalds any day and the environment is so much nicer, no noisy kids or yelling parents...
Well, you get the occasional screaming kid, but in a nice coffee shop the parents actually bother to shut their child up.
Smart guy. A Happy Meal has the right number of calories for two adult meals. If he was a gentleman, he'd let you keep the toy. And if you ended up having sex with him, he'd know it's because you are genuinely attracted to him and not paying off your implied debt.
Indeed bro, whatever happened to first dates being fun and not having to be elaborate or expensive? Plus.....how can u not luv the mcchicken popper thingies they're promoting now?
Ummm this is WIN WIN!! For first dates, I have to go Dutch. I don't want to waste my money on some expensive meal when there might not be a 2nd date. This guy is wise. I would totally keep him if I had a good time and the 2nd date was a step up.
I agree! My first reaction is that McDonald's isn't that great but if OP knew ahead if time and they had fun, then it shouldn't matter!
I think this is win, too.
Right. You can have a good time on a first date without spending a penny if you're creative. I had a date where we met at the mall. We just walked around and talked for about an hour or so. There was no 2nd date, but at least I didn't spend 30 bucks at Olive Garden or Joe's Crab Shack like I normally do when I pay for mine.
Umm... Guys should always pay for the first date. Dutch on the following dates...being ok w going Dutch on a happy meal is setting the bar real low on ur value as a potential gf and as a person in general... U are worth a full happy meal!!
You want equal rights/pay all the time? You go dutch all the time. Simple really.
Look's like he won't have to waste money on a second date either.
That's when you should've walked out on him and called for a ride if you didn't drive. I prefer to take girls out for dinner and a movie on the first date
Movie first dates are a bad idea. You waste time just sitting there not talking to or even looking at each other. Save the movie for a girlfriend. Coffee and maybe dancing is a much better bet for a first date.
I hope this was the first and last date. If not you'll probably wind up at Burger King for date number two splitting a value meal because he still "isn't sure". 3rd date - Pizza Hut going Dutch for the lunch buffet, but "He's getting closer to feeling okay about you two." 4th date - You end up paying for the KFC, so he can "see if you're committed to the relationship." 5th date - OMG if you're on a 5th date with this guy you deserve everything you get.... run for your life, now!

Wow how cheap can you be to split a happy meal and not a big mac meal?
He's a keeper ;)
