Today, I went to college, where I'm studying for my dream job. Despite getting up at 5am to catch the earliest bus into town, I arrived ten minutes late. My professor knows my circumstances, but is still threatening to kick me off the course if I don't "arrive on time like everyone else." FML

I know it sucks, but if he makes an exception for you he'll have to make one for everyone else. Maybe you could carpool with a classmate?

Maybe you a car would be a good thing to get

I dont know a single large university that doesnt work like this. Sucks but that's what happens.

I'm sorry if things aren't quite working out OP, but welcome to the real world. People aren't going to bend over backwards even if you have a special situation. You need to find another solution. You future boss won't like you being late to work just because a train or bus schedule doesn't fit your needs.

But your boss you to work and expects you to be there on time. You essentially pay the professor to take his class. If you're late what does it matter to him? He's still getting paid. If your work suffers than it's on you. Unless OP is missing more than a third of the class their work isn't likely to suffer as much as that professor thinks they will.

It may or may not affect their ability to learn the course work. At my college, classes were 45 minutes so being 10 minutes late would be a big deal. All that aside, some professors also prefer to be strict about things like this to prepare students for the real world, even if it is not quite the "real world." Totally reasonable IMO.

Well some people are just assholes and don't care about anyone else if their paycheck keeps coming through

Sleep in the library the night before class. When you make money fom your dream job, you can hire hobos to shit on your old professor's lawn. Revenge is a dish best served shitty.

Shitty, my teachers don't give a shit whether I show up or not, I would just be wasting my own money

I had the same problem at a course I went too. 15minute walk to bus stop then a hour bus ride, longer depending on the day. I spoke to the head tutor, explained it and my latest wasn't questioned again. Speak to whoever is in charge of that department, hopefully they'll understand.

You say that like they're even remotely affordable.

You obviously have never taken a cab before. They are NOT cheap.

Clearly a realistic and affordable solution. Why not just buy a car?

You should of known transportation would be a challenge, reliable transportation is an absolute must. I imagine you'll need a job at some point for which you'll also need a means to get there. I say, invest in a vehicle.

Because all college students can afford a car... not really.

Why can't you get there on time even if you do take the early bus. And just out of curiosity what college are you at. I'm not tryin to be rude I'm just askin

Sometimes buses just run late, or they live pretty far from campus. I live 25 miles from my school, and luckily I have a car, because otherwise it would be a nightmare getting to and from class.
