Today, I went to take my driver's test, and I did almost everything perfectly. The last thing was to back into a driveway. As I went to put my hand on the passenger seat to look over my shoulder, I got so nervous that I hit my instructor in the face. FML

I'm sure he couldn't hold it against you! After all, beating your passengers doesn't make you a bad driver...

I did that to my dad once, he wasn't very happy

....And use your mirrors, they're your friend not your enemy

Lol I had my driving exam yesterday and trust me, it was very stressful. Just explain yourself to him and hope for the best. Hope you passed!

And with that, the driver turned to OP and said... "Well, what a hit this drive was, I'd say you pass." And all was good until OP had a drive with his mom...

Nerves can be a bitch. I babbled like a total maniac during my driving test. Hopefully your instructor didn't take it badly... if he/she did, take the test again, and hit them harder next time ;)

I don't understand why people find it necessary to put their hand on the back of the passenger seat to reverse ..

Obviously there's a bunch of dumbasses out there who don't know how to use mirrors properly

Tell me about it. The rear view mirror is there for that reason. I don't even know why we're taught to look behind us the "proper way". It just encourages bad behavior. Then again, I'm in Canada, so it's a bit different here I'd assume.

I agree we still have some terrible drivers in Canada, but as usual not as bad as the states

jim_bolicious, you appear to be commenting on every thread about using your mirrors. I think we get the point by now. I guess driving instructors teach how to reverse differently, as I've always kept both hands on the wheel and turned my head to see out the back and side windows. Out of interest, how long have you been driving?

I've been driving for about 12 years now, even when I was training they were trying to tell us the best way is to turn around, and look out the back, but my dad taught me to use my mirrors and I immediately saw how much easier it was, and ever since then i've been using my mirrors, The tester wasn't too strict on details as long as I was able to get the job done. People straining themselves to look out the back has always been a major pet peeve of mine because I've seen several scraped car doors due to people not paying attention to the front part of the vehicle Sorry about overposting, I was more annoyed at people thinking that there's a blind spot directly behind the vehicle, and it didn't seem like they were getting the point

I think he failed. In Maryland they fail you if you don't have both hands on the wheel while moving, that's how it was a few years ago when I took the test.

I'm taking my driving test on Friday.. But I'll make note of not hitting the instructor. Thanks for the heads up

If he does not pass you, hit him again in the face. Harder.

I'm surprised you were allowed I take your hand off the wheel and put it behind the seat. When I took my test, we had to keep both hands on the wheel, even while backing up. Granted, we're from different states and different driving laws. Hopefully you still passed the test!
