Today, I went to the beach. After applying sunscreen liberally and doing my best to stay out of the sun, I came home with the worst sunburn I have ever had. I almost needed to go to the hospital. I am officially too pale to be allowed outside in summer. FML

As with everything else, it's about moderation. You invest in an extremely high SPF sunblock that you reapply liberally and often, and you get a big stupid looking hat. You wear long sleeves and pants. It's inconvenient to need to take such measures, but much less unpleasant than frying yourself crispy. You really should know the deal by now, OP. One application of sunblock and an attempt to stay in the shade just doesn't cut it for more than an hour or so.

I have to use SPF 75 to not burn, so I feel your pain. We constantly go camping and to the beach, but no amount of exposure to the sun makes me tan. Even self tanners just make me orange. I'm content with my whiteness these days. (And no, I'm not a ginger.)

Especially because it's not summer in Australia, but the whole hemisphere, and most people who MIGHT say that, aren't aware of that, not just Australia. I feel for you, OP. Being pale sucks. I recommend Blue Lizard Sun Cream, it is the BEST sunscreen I have ever used, and it's made in Australia! Secondly, try using Solarcaine spray on your sunburn. It's a little smelly, and you'll be sticky for a few hours, but it takes away the pain and minimizes peeling. From one Pale-y to another!
