Today, I went to the hospital due to vomiting and abdominal pain, and they decided to fit me with an IV drip. It took several tries by two different people to get the cannula in. I feel like a human pin-cushion. FML

To be honest, I'm not sure there are many people that do like needles...

As a nurse OP, we try to get it done as fast as we can. It sucks and sometimes we can't find a good vein to work with, but we aren't purposely trying to hurt you. Stay strong OP you can do it!

I feel this in my soul I'm frequently hosptitalized and nurses ALWAYS miss my vein when putting in IVs. Sometimes to the point of having to open another IV needle pack and retrying with that one.

I know exactly how you feel. Every time I give blood they need blood work or I need an IV they have to have 2-3 people try.

It's okay OP. If it makes you feel better, one time after I got my tonsils out I got a huge fever and was sent to the hospital. I made this huge mistake where I pointed to a scar on my arm and they proceeded to try to stick the IV into the scar they assumed was from a previous IV insertion. It took 3 people.. 2 people on my right arm with the scar and one person who finally got it on my left arm. The next day I looked at the scar and there was a bruise about 1 inch going up to the left of my arm. OTL I forgot how long it was but it felt like 5ever

Who hasn't this happened to?

OP is male. I am pretty sure he isn't pregnant

That happened to me when I had to get surgery. It was horrible.

Yep I've been there. I was getting my wisdom teeth out and I'd never worked out in my life and was 6'0 120. They had a really hard time finding a vein... places they tried included the backs of both hands (one twice), both arms in several places, and eventually they found one in my right arm that worked but it was not a pleasant experience.

That's okay I've been poked 26 times before. It's not fun.

There efforts were finally proven to be in vein though, correct?
