Today, I went to the movies with my crush, who had asked me out on a date. Assuming he'd pay, I left my money at home. When the time came to buy the tickets, he only bought one for himself. FML

Contrary to popular belief it's ignorant to be so confident in this "rule" that you don't bring your own money, I believe it was totally deserved in this case. This doesn't mean I don't believe the guy should pay though so don't get confused.

It's just kind of stupid not to have money with you anyway whenever you leave the house for anything... what if you get stuck somewhere and need a cab home or something, or there's something you end up desperately needing for some reason? It's nice if whoever asks the the other out pays, but they don't have to, some people can't afford to or simply don't want to. You shouldn't have assumed, you deserve it for just assuming, and you deserve it for not bringing your money anyway because you should no matter what.

Definitely should have brought your money, so you deserve it. But I would have been surprised by him not paying too. But it's a nice gesture, not a rule.

Why does it matter if he pays or not? Maybe he couldn't afford it. Does that mean he is not allowed to date? Ydi for expecting a free ride.

Dick on his part, but one should never assume these things; he should be the embarrassed one, but usually it's the person who forgot their money that gets the blame.

If you don't even make an attempt to pay, you pretty much deserve it.

Times have changed. When I was growing up (raised by my grandparents) they always taught me this: If you are going out as friends, pay for yourself. If you are on a date, however, the guy should pay. I can see where you made your mistake.

And people wonder where chivalry has gone...
